Enterprise Tester 4.3 | You Asked For It!

No longer a sneak peek… our latest release is out now! Check it out today.

If you’ve been following our blogs you’ll know that Enterprise Tester 4.3 is on it’s way (we’re just going through the final round of testing) and, to support all of our customers wanting to build integrations to Enterprise Tester,  we’ll be introducing a REST API. If you missed, the ‘sneak peek’ get yourself up-to-date here.

In every release, alongside from the major features, we also include a set of “You Asked For It” features and enhancements. The Product Team select some of the most frequently asked for new features, enhancement, or fixes and get them into the product for you. Here’s a brief summary of what else is instore in Enterprise Tester 4.3:

  1. Introduction of Project Templates – Stage 1
  2. Enhancements to Script Assignments in the Execution Set
  3. New Dashboard Portlets – Getting Started, Getting Started Video and What’s New
  4. New Feedback and Report Bugs feature within Enterprise Tester

Project Templates – Stage 1

In the upcoming release you can expect to see our first step to providing support for project templates – we have added two templates, in addition to the Enterprise Tester out of the box project set-up. Now, when creating a project, you will have the option to use your default set for your Organisation. The Enterprise Tester default set or, your customised your picklist for your organisation, will form your default template.

The template will allow you to quickly set up a project according to your development process. It will also provide you with the set of associated picklist values as well as automatic creation of your the project structure  and custom fields.

Here’s an example of how your project might look after selecting the agile project template:

Script Attachment Links in the Execution Set

We have had a lot of requests to be able to access attachments from the scripts in the Script Library when running tests, and we totally agree. You’ll notice in the screenshot above that we’ve add a new feature that provides you with links to all associated attachments from the original script in the Script Library.

New Dashboard Portlets

We’ve added three new portlets to the the Dashboard; two ‘Getting Started’ portlets will help new users get familiar with ET and the ‘What’s New’ portlet will give you an overview of the new features introduced in the version you are running.

I love this ‘Getting Started’ task portlet and can see some great uses for it in future releases. For 4.3 though, we are focussing on new Admin Users, giving them a few tasks to complete to get started with ET.

You’ll need to wait for 4.3 to check out the videos!

Request Enhancements or Report Bugs inside Enterprise Tester

And finally… We love hearing from you, so we’ve added an easier way for you to report bugs or request enhancements. If you’re feeling shy, you can anonymously send us your feedback, but it is helpful to have your name and contact email. You’ll be able to access these from the menu in the dropdown beside your name.

That’s all for now! I’m going to get back to working with the team, to get this release ready for you all to enjoy and I’ll leave you to your own QA and testing activities. I hope you enjoy what’s in store for Enterprise Tester 4.3!

Enterprise Tester 4.3 will be released on 10 September 2012.

Note: If your technically-minded and want to understand more about how our team have put together the API, our Lead Developer has put together an awesome blog series on his personal blog. You can find it here.
